4 stars

While I feel a bit silly giving both of these anthologies 4/5 stars, I do feel like Beaton continues to delivery above and beyond what I expect. Not only do we see more variety in style in this volume, we also get cool endpapers, many more interesting parts of history I had never even thought of before and more feminism!

To recap what we all already know, Kate Beaton writes a lot of really great strip comics that deal with everything from history, literature to pop culture and fairy tales. She makes far off people on pedestals feel real and hilarious. In her capable hands neither history or literature could ever be called dusty or boring. Beaton clearly has a driving passion for all of these subjects (and no doubt many more) and she ingeniously turns anyone who gives her half a chance to her cause. Her jokes are fresh and punchy and you will come away from this having learned at least one thing you didn't already know about history.
