This book is something else entirely… Much like the main character, in fact. That’s no spoiler; you find out on page one that she’s different. It takes all of the rest of pages to figure out why.
I doubt reading this book would ever have occurred to me without a recommendation. It says “emotionally charged” right there in the description! That’s my least favorite way for something to be! I prefer emotionally drained, or at most emotionally ambivalent. Even so, I definitely don’t regret it.
There are a lot of really smart references, at least relative to the subject matter. The whole thing presents a few neat philosophical quandaries. None of them are particularly novel, even within the genre, but I think they may be better written here. I especially enjoy a story where I don’t despise any of the characters, even the intentionally despicable ones. My hat is off to you, sir!
