Review of 'The City of Ember' on 'Goodreads'

4 stars

Why did I love this so much? My god this world is awesome.

After a good nights sleep after finishing this book I have come to the conclusion that I love it. But I can't give it a 5 star rating because I have one main issue that I know others have had with this novel:
How old is Poppy? It's just so unclear and inconsistent that I really don't know. Maybe she isn't a real baby and is instead a demon disguised as one, maybe she's 5 years old but can only talk in gurgle. Who knows?

Anyway, the world in this book is absolutely incredible. Underground cities are my #1 favourite setting (so if you have any recs hit me up), and this hit the spot. I just can't even express my love for this book. I listened to it half in audiobook, which I definitely recommend as the narrator is great.

I 100% recommend this to anyone looking for a new middle grade.

PS: the movie is great too
