Have loved reading for as long as I can remember. Fantasy (epic and urban) and sci-fi books are my true loves. Actively working to decolonize my bookshelf.

Olivia Dade: Spoiler Alert (2020, HarperCollins Publishers)

Review of 'Spoiler Alert' on 'Goodreads'

HOLY CRAP THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD.

I said on twitter that while I absolutely agree it's a love letter to fandom... I think it really is a love letter to loving yourself.

Casey McQuiston: Red, White & Royal Blue (Paperback, 2019, St. Martin's Griffin)

What happens when America's First Son falls in love with the Prince of Wales?

Review of 'Red, White & Royal Blue' on 'Goodreads'

Adored this! It read a bit like fanfic, which is NOT a bad thing! Read it in a single day, and squealed a lot.

It's a light, fluffy romance that's a perfect AU for our current dumpster fire of a world.

Review of 'Bittersweet Bride' on 'Goodreads'

The male lead was a dumpster fire. I couldn't finish the book. So many consent issues.
He was engaged, his family disapproved, sent him to war. He was reported dead. She married someone else. Six years later he shows back up and is a miserable bastard to her because she moved on. He's written a play, naming her the villain, and is threatening to publish it unless she sells her land to his family.
His family who did their best to kill her after he left.
He keeps physically getting close to her, and she says no, but he pushes anyway. THIS IS NOT ROMANTIC OR SEXY THIS IS A LACK OF CONSENT!
It was so uncomfortable to read.
She was having a panic attack due to a storm and got in her carriage to leave the theatre. He pushed in.
When he grabbed her wrist and started kissing it …

It was a struggle at first, only because it was such a shift from the Honorverse which I have been reading for months now. But I settled into it soon and fell in love.
I'll be honest, I love the treecats more than the people, but I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes next.

reviewed A duke by default by Alyssa cole (Reluctant royals)

Review of 'A duke by default' on 'Goodreads'

SOOO good.

I had hoped at the end of the first RR book that we were going to learn a little more about Portia, and that she would be able to get herself together.

Such a relatable protagonist, despite her trust-fund.

My only complaint, and I realize that it makes a more realistic story, is that things with her parents never really resolved at the end. But there's more to the series, so maybe we'll see how that all falls out!

reviewed In Enemy Hands by David Weber (Honor Harrington, #7)

Holy hell.

I cannot remember the last time I cried so much through a book as I did this one.

That's all I have to say about that.

Super cute. The ending felt a bit rushed, but it's the first of the series so I'm looking forward to reading the rest!

Review of 'Countess Conspiracy' on 'Goodreads'

I feel like this series is finally starting to step into its own. These characters were among the first I have actually really enjoyed in the series. And Sebastian is the first love interest I haven't wanted to stab and tell the woman she could do better.

Review of 'Suffragette Scandal' on 'Goodreads'

This was a fun read. The last two books of these series were a really great time. The women were so much more interesting and the men didn't make me want to become a lesbian forever.

Free is easily my favorite heroine thusfar. I would like many more books about her, please!

reviewed Honor among enemies by David Weber (Honor Harrington (English) (6))

David Weber: Honor among enemies (Paperback, 1997, Baen, Distributed by Simon and Schuster)

Not his best book. But also... a great book. It took sooooooo long to get into the action. But once we did, it was a great story, as expected. I liked more insight into the PRH.

I will say, If I'd have known how much rape was in these books... I'd probably have given it a pass. I'm trying to think if any of the books thus far have NOT mentioned it in some fashion, and I think no? It's generally handled well, with the "good" characters reacting appropriately. But also, c'mon. There are other plot devices for women, pls and thank you.

It did feel like, with all the setup... the final battle was kinda short-lived. But I almost view these books as one looooong book, so. We'll see. I'll definitely be reading the next one.

reviewed The Heiress Effect by Courtney Milan (The Brothers Sinister Book 2)

Review of 'The Heiress Effect' on 'Goodreads'

Honestly... I freaking HATE the love interest in this. He... does not strike me as charming, or kind. He's awful to her. And he has one moment of "Oops" and all is forgiven. Ugh.

No. The chemistry just was not there for me.

Jane on the other hand, LOOOOVE her.

Now, Emily and Anjan, there's a book I would have liked to have read.
