I'm a 40something year old reader who likes mostly fantasy fiction, but can wander off into other fields on occasion. I've been a bookworm my whole life, and I tell my kids and anyone else who'll listen that 1, reading is never a waste of time, no matter what you're reading, [this in response to those who tell me I should only read nonfiction], and 2, if you're a reader you're never bored. Book limbo, however, is often a thing for me. I'd got a tun of stuff to read, but don't feel like reading any of it.

This book held my attention much more than the ones before it. Still dragged me a bit in places, but I think this is my own preference rather than the actual book pacing. Recommended, and am going onto the next one right now.

Would actually have given this a 3.5, because I've tried several times over the last few years to read this and couldn't get into it. This time, for whatever reason, I kept going and enjoyed the end, making me want to read the second book. That's why i went up to 4 instead of down to 3. The end makes this book worth it, and begins to show the potential for the series. The second half of this is definitely better than the first.

I read this a scary number of years ago, and have remembered since how much I loved it. Now, rereading it, I remember why. I love G.G. Kay's writing style and the themes he explores in his books. also, randomly, loved the author's note at the end of the version narrated by Simon Vance.

I read this with my husband, one section at a time, read at the end of the day. He had read it before, but I hadn't. There is much food for thought here, and the writing is truly beautiful. I enjoyed the Audible version narrated by Michael Cramer and Kate Redding, because of the music interspersed throughout the writing. It greatly enhanced the experience.
