I'm a 40something year old reader who likes mostly fantasy fiction, but can wander off into other fields on occasion. I've been a bookworm my whole life, and I tell my kids and anyone else who'll listen that 1, reading is never a waste of time, no matter what you're reading, [this in response to those who tell me I should only read nonfiction], and 2, if you're a reader you're never bored. Book limbo, however, is often a thing for me. I'd got a tun of stuff to read, but don't feel like reading any of it.

Anne Bishop: The queen's bargain (Hardcover, 2020, Ace/Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House LLC)

Review of "The queen's bargain" on 'Goodreads'

Each time I revisit these characters it's a joy. It's nice to see how the kids are growing up and how the main characters are changing and surviving. I know that some say it's a drawback that Bishop keeps on with the same characters, and perhaps it was when they were a subplot rather than the main plot of the book, but having them back in the limelight is so much fun. Loved this, and am already reading the book that came out this month which continues this story thread, or at least with the same characters.

Colleen McCullough: Caesar (Paperback, 2003, Avon)

Review of 'Caesar' on 'Goodreads'

This is not the first time I've read this. Love this series. I haven't read the last two books in the series, though, and am looking forward to doing so.

Evan Winter: The Fires of Vengeance (Paperback, 2021, Orbit)

Review of 'The Fires of Vengeance' on 'Goodreads'

Loved this! This series is wonderful. Except ... I didn't wait for it to be finished, so I have to wait. Gah! Highly recommended.

Review of 'The rage of Dragons' on 'Goodreads'

This was amazing, both because the book is plain awesome and the narrator of the audio book is fabulous. Highly recommended. I didn't like the main character much, but I did understand him, and he acted true to his characterization.

This series continues to impress me. I love it, and I'm so glad I've got the next book to read starting tomorrow.

reviewed Edgedancer by Brandon Sanderson (The Stormlight Archive, #2.5)

Review of 'Edgedancer' on 'Goodreads'

I liked this, but felt my interest slipping at some points. Though Sanderson always manages to regain it, and although I kind of expect it in a novel hundreds of pages long, I don't expect it in a novella.

reviewed The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson (The Stormlight Archive, #1)

Review of 'The Way of Kings' on 'Goodreads'

Took me a bit to get into this one, like about 100 pages. But once it did catch me, it didn't let go until the final page. Ended up loving this book.

Review of 'An Echo of Things to Come' on 'Goodreads'

This book took me a while to get to. Not sure why, since I liked the first so much. Now, though, I'm avidly onto the third book. Wonderful writing, and enough plot twists to keep me happy.

You’ve never met the other wives. …

Review of 'Wives' on 'Goodreads'

I liked this for the most part, but found it dragged in a few places for some reason. Also, I knew what the plot twist was going to be the first time we hear about her going into the hospital, so it was somehwat predictable. The end was interesting, though.

reviewed Caesar's Women by Colleen McCullough (Masters of Rome Series)

Colleen McCullough: Caesar's Women (1997, Avon)

The story of Julius Caesar and his rise to fame in Rome_

Review of "Caesar's Women" on 'Goodreads'

Loved this. This is my second reading of this book. This time, I enjoyed both the story and the portrayal of the women around Caesar, something somewhat rare in the usual historical tellings.

Deborah J. Ross: Gifts of Darkover (Paperback, 2015, Marion Zimmer Bradley Literary Works Trust)

Review of 'Gifts of Darkover' on 'Goodreads'

Loved this. Though, as with all anthologies, I liked some stories better than others, the entire thing was readable and fun. Looking forward to catching up on all of the other Darkover Anthologies which I haven't read yet.
