Review of 'The Plot' on 'Goodreads'

At first I was going to say this was a fun and quick read, but I ended up being a bit disappointed. There were definitely things I liked. For example, because the protagonist is a writer who's trying to help other people with their writing, you get a lot of hilarious (and well-written) descriptions of bad writing. It took me back to my English major days in college. I also enjoyed having the feeling of dread build as the story progressed, and there were elements that I thought were done particularly well (e.g., the marital arguments and the social media aspects of the story). However, for the story within the story, the supposedly big twist just wasn't as huge or novel as it was made out to be. And the big reveal in the frame story was too easy to anticipate (I think I started suspecting it about half way through). By the end, it began to feel like the characters were doing things that didn't make much sense.
