This book falls in with Charles Stross' books and Jon Walter Williams "Implied Spaces" very well. If you like wondering where quantum physics, artificial intelligence and nanotechnology will take us, this book will be of interest. At heart, it is really an old fashioned detective novel, just propelled into the future. Character development was a little lacking, but the story propelled me through, almost against my will. There is the detective, lost love, the roguish thief, and powers beyond our fathoming to deal with in the story, which was complex and full of terminology and tech that was rather daunting at first. Most of the time I don't enjoy being confused, but it all worked out with this one. I recommend you read it, but don't stress if you are lost. Push through and you'll get it (mostly) in the end.
