After the success of the Nashville sit-in campaign, John Lewis is more committed than ever to changing the world through nonviolence -- but as he and his fellow Freedom Riders board a bus into the vicious heart of the deep south, they will be tested like never before.

Even better than the first book, I really appreciated the amount of nuance and honesty that seems to have gone into this volume. This particular series may be focused in on John Lewis, but he shows a lot of respect for the people around him, even for those who disagreed with him. It would have been easy to just pretend that all good people agree all of the time, but that would not be reality.

The art and layout of the series continues to be top notch.

It's sobering that the events in Book 2 occurred almost in my lifetime (that is, not much more than 50 years ago). I was lucky enough to grow up in progressive, inclusive Hyde Park (Chicago) in the 70s and 80s. I'm saddened (completely insufficient word, in this case) that there's still so much bigotry, hatred, and xenophobia in our world today.
