L.A. reviewed Somewhere Beyond the Sea by T. J. Klune
Comfort read
2 stars
I really like T. J. Klune's writing style. And, coming back to these adorable characters made me feel happy. I wish this book didn't feel so...sloppy? I dunno. I don't like it when people describe fiction as preachy because I feel like it is an easy word to grab when speculative fiction or fantasy is not written as well as it could have been. But, I felt preached to while reading parts of this book. And, like, he's preaching to the choir here. It was a bit performative. Yes. That's the word I am looking for. Performative. Otherwise, I was so happy to read about these kids making messes, playing in their garden and tormenting the adults in their lives.
