This was the book where we see more of Jacky as a combination of both Jacqueline and Jacky. An amalgamation of what her werecat family want her to be and what Jacky herself deems she stands for.
I mean she is taking part in the werecat world and the general political clime but using her own agenda and applying her personal code to it, that is to bring harm as few people as possible and to show that maybe peace between the werecats and werewolves can come. This is achieved by ways of solving a murder mystery. Like I said what happens in previous books comes back in this one and though I love that in the matters of writing plot I am dreading what other things will come back around in the coming books (there are 15 planned) as there are a lot of people Jacky and Heath have angered over the course of 4 years. Of course they have also gained quite a few allies as well.

I think what has me hooked on this series is the continuity of events. Though time passes between each book and there are a couple of side novellas that are referred to in between books the threads shown in previous books are picked up in the next book or later on in the series. There are not a lot of loose threads in this story. I mean what happened in book one directly affected book 6 and this one. I know it is difficult to look at all the balls up in the air with plot lines and come back to them or address them in a series that is as long as this. It is understandable if some just peter out.

This book had so much angst. I had a good cry reading some of the parts. And I loved that we got a sort of closure for some things from the 1st book and I am also quite happy about some of the decisions made by our MC's. I am looking forward to what Banet has in store for us in the next book where we get to meet werecats that are not just Jacky's Famiy.

I knew it! I knew Boaz was no good. Though they weren't really in a relationship officially, they had made the decision to date and be together. That commitment lasted for less than a week. And Amelie! How could she. Not only did her grab for power endanger the friend that she purported to try and help with that act she betrayed the trust that friend placed in her even after said friend put her neck on the line and gave her a place to stay. I get that losing her family made her sad. But that is the difference between her and Grier. While one is gave up on her friend and a chance to have a found family Grier tried to keep her found one and got betrayed for it and is trying to build a new one. For all the 1st book read like a YA these successors have not and so far I am hooked.

This was the best in the series so far for me. It was luckily also the longest. It has musltiple characters, political intrigue, assassins, pirates, spousal selections of the likes of the Mahabharat and a few chuckles too. Best of all it forwarded the overarcing plot of the corruption and we finally got to meet a few of this fabled Assembly.

I am on a high from reading this book but I am also depressed that I do not have the next installment and do not know when I will have it my hands. This is the curse of reading an ongoing series and in this case I am resigned to is as this ongoing series is awesome. The ending has left me with a lot of questions that I am hoping will be answered soon.

Coming to the relationships in this book it had a lot of different kinds. This book was about a ruler selecting someone to basically have genetically enhanced babies with. Not a lot of romance in that but the authors proved me wrong. There was also the showcasing of familial love and that of one between an inn and its innkeeper. What I love about Ilona Andrews books is that once the MC's become romantically involved they have quite a lot of trust in each other. And that shines through in this book.

I have not been very lucky these past couple of weeks with my reading in the sense that I have only read fair to middling books (in catching my interest and holding it). So I went on the hunt for romances to pick me up. Especially ones with no 3rd act breakup. It seems like every romance I read the couple have to have a miscommunication or obstacle thrown in their way that leads to their break up. This just started getting on my nerves. I hopped on to reddit and searched my way to reading this book. I have never read Nalini Singh's Contemporary books. I have to admit I thought she only wrote PNR. But I am glad I gave this book a chance.

I loved both Gabriel and Charlotte. I loved the way Gabriel was with Charlotte and how Charlotte found a way to cope with her trauma with and without the help of the people who loved her. Her trauma not disappearing just because she fell in love lent a reality to the story that I liked. I felt like Charlotte was kinda like Kintsugi. She might have been broken but she glued herself back together through courage and love and that was what stood out towards the end. I don't think I am making sense but I would really recommend this book. It was both steamy and slow burn with a great relationship.
